Forza Horizon 6 has officially gone gold, marking a major milestone ahead of its global release. Publisher Xbox Game Studios and developer Playground Games confirmed that development is now complete, with the game being prepared for both physical distribution and digital launch.
With the finish line in sight, players can now begin preloading the game across supported platforms, ensuring they are ready to jump into the open roads of Japan as soon as it becomes available.
Preload Now Live on Xbox Series X|S and PC
Preloading for Forza Horizon 6 is currently available on Xbox Series X|S and PC via the Xbox app, with Steam support expected soon. Players who have pre-ordered any edition of the game, or those subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, can download the full game ahead of launch.
The file size is substantial, requiring approximately 135GB on Xbox Series X, 130GB on Xbox Series S, and up to 160GB on PC, where an SSD is mandatory. Early Access begins on May 15 for Premium Edition owners, while the full global launch is set for May 19.
Japan Setting and Expanded Soundtrack Take Center Stage
This entry in the Horizon series takes players to Japan, featuring a diverse range of environments designed to highlight the country’s car culture. Alongside the new setting, Forza Horizon 6 introduces its largest soundtrack yet, spanning nine in-game radio stations.
Players can expect a mix of genres, including J-pop, electronic, rock, hip-hop, and even modern classical music. The Horizon Festival continues to position music as a core part of the experience, with curated stations designed to complement high-speed exploration and competitive racing.
Performance Modes Detailed for Xbox Series X|S
For console players, Forza Horizon 6 offers both Quality and Performance modes on Xbox Series X|S. On Xbox Series X, Quality mode delivers native 4K resolution at 30 frames per second, while Performance mode targets a smoother 60 frames per second with dynamic scaling.
Meanwhile, Xbox Series S runs at 1440p and 30 frames per second in Quality mode, or 1080p at 60 frames per second in Performance mode. These options give players flexibility in choosing between visual fidelity and smoother gameplay.
Loyalty Rewards and Accessibility Features Highlighted
Longtime fans of the franchise will be rewarded through a loyalty system that grants in-game cars based on previous Forza titles played. This includes entries across both the Horizon and Motorsport series, offering a nostalgic bonus for returning players.
Accessibility also sees meaningful expansion, with features such as AutoDrive, Proximity Radar, and High Contrast Mode aimed at improving usability for a wider audience. Additional options like controller remapping, subtitles, and adjustable difficulty ensure that players can tailor the experience to their needs.
Forza Horizon 6 Release Date and Platforms
Forza Horizon 6 launches on May 19 for Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store, with a version for PlayStation 5 planned for later in 2026. With preloading now live and development complete, anticipation is rapidly building for what could be one of the biggest racing game releases of the year.
