Konami’s free-to-play football title eFootball has officially reached 1 billion cumulative downloads worldwide, marking a massive milestone for the game. To mark the occasion, the developer has kicked off a series of in-game celebrations that long-time fans of the Pro Evolution Soccer series will find familiar.
Players who log into the game during the celebration period can collect daily bonuses including eFootball Coins. Completing matches and progressing through the campaign also earns Chance Deals, which give players a random shot at acquiring players from an exclusive pool that includes legendary names like Ronaldinho Gaucho.
The centerpiece of the celebration is “Master League Sprint,” a limited-time event running until April 16th. It draws inspiration from the classic Master League mode that was a staple of the old Pro Evolution Soccer games, putting players in the shoes of a club manager.
The event tasks players with building and running a football club by signing players, scheduling training, managing player conditioning, and picking lineups to climb to the top of the league. Fans of the original Master League will recognize some familiar faces in the starting squad, including cult favorites Castolo and Minanda.
On the creative side, Konami has also partnered with Kodansha’s manga platform K MANGA to launch a serialized manga tied to the celebration. Titled “That Time I Got Reincarnated in PES,” the series is written by Kiminori Wakasugi, the author behind the popular manga Detroit Metal City. The story follows a protagonist who gets reincarnated into the world of Master League, with Castolo, Minanda, and other familiar characters making appearances. Access to the manga is limited to regions where K MANGA is available, and eligible players can reach it directly through an in-game banner.
