Developer and publisher 11 bit studios has officially announced that Frostpunk is coming to the Nintendo Switch. While a release date has not yet been confirmed, the announcement signals that the critically acclaimed survival city-builder will soon be playable in a portable format for the first time on a Nintendo platform.
The move represents another major step in expanding the reach of one of the most influential strategy titles of the last decade, allowing players to experience its signature moral dilemmas and harsh leadership decisions wherever they go.
A Modern Strategy Classic Heads to Switch

Originally released for PC on April 24, 2018, Frostpunk quickly earned recognition for blending city-building mechanics with narrative-driven survival gameplay. The game later launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2019 before arriving on mobile platforms in 2024.
With its upcoming Nintendo Switch release, Frostpunk continues its multi-platform journey by introducing its distinctive blend of strategy, resource management, and ethical decision-making to handheld play. According to lead designer Jakub Stokalski, the portable version represents a meaningful milestone for the development team.

He explained that Frostpunk’s defining feature is how players carry the emotional weight of their leadership choices throughout the experience. Bringing the game to Nintendo Switch allows players to “literally” take those difficult decisions with them anywhere, making the transition to a portable platform especially fitting for the title.
Survive the Cold While Making Impossible Choices

Set in a frozen alternate-history world, Frostpunk challenges players to build and maintain the last surviving city on Earth around a massive heat generator. Unlike traditional city-building games that emphasize expansion and optimization alone, Frostpunk focuses heavily on moral tension and survival tradeoffs.
Players must decide how far they are willing to go to keep their citizens alive. Choices surrounding child labor, harsh laws, strict discipline, and social control systems shape both the city’s future and the player’s leadership legacy. These decisions are not simply mechanical systems but narrative drivers that define each playthrough differently.

This focus on ethics under pressure helped Frostpunk stand out as a modern strategy classic and remains one of its most talked-about features years after its original release.
Portable Strategy With Emotional Weight

Bringing Frostpunk to Nintendo Switch allows players to experience its intense survival strategy gameplay in shorter sessions while retaining the same emotional stakes that defined earlier versions. The game’s structure, built around critical decisions and escalating crises, naturally suits both handheld and docked play styles.
For longtime fans, the Switch version offers a new way to revisit the frozen world of Frostpunk. For newcomers, it presents an opportunity to experience one of the genre’s most distinctive entries for the first time on a flexible platform.
The announcement also arrives alongside ongoing momentum for the franchise, including the recently revealed Frostpunk 1886, a definitive version of the original game that will introduce substantial new content to the experience in the future.
Although a release date for the Nintendo Switch version has not yet been confirmed, the arrival of Frostpunk on the platform marks another important step in bringing its challenging leadership simulation to an even wider audience.
