Veteran game director Hideki Kamiya has delivered a blunt warning to players who spoil Resident Evil Requiem, stating that those who reveal key plot points “deserve to die a thousand deaths.” Kamiya, known for directing Resident Evil 2 and designing Resident Evil 0, as well as creating Bayonetta, Okami, and Viewtiful Joe, spoke out following Capcom’s appeal to fans to avoid sharing early gameplay footage.
Capcom and Kamiya Take a Stand Against Spoilers

Last week, Capcom asked players not to watch or circulate gameplay footage of Resident Evil Requiem, citing concerns about spoilers appearing online, particularly on video platforms and forums like Reddit. Retweeting Capcom’s message, Kamiya shared his own memories of Resident Evil 2 being spoiled before its release.
“I remember back on Biohazard 2 [Resident Evil 2], its late-game twist was completely spoiled by a weekly photo magazine,” Kamiya wrote via translation. He added that spoiling games for selfish enjoyment harms both fans and creators: “It’s a despicable act that destroys everyone’s happiness – you deserve to die a thousand deaths. May you be cursed never to play games again.”
Resident Evil Requiem’s Release and Early Copies

Resident Evil Requiem is officially set for release on Friday, February 27, but physical copies have already appeared in stores since last week. Capcom’s warnings come as players seek early access and share footage online, which could reveal critical plot elements.
Hideki Kamiya’s Current Projects

After 17 years at PlatinumGames, Kamiya founded Clovers in 2023. He has returned to collaborate with Capcom while also developing a new entry in the Okami series. In a 2025 interview with VGC, Kamiya stated: “At the small scale we’re at right now, making this next Okami game is all that we can handle. As we scale up, we may work on another Capcom IP, a new Okami project, or a new IP with another publisher. Any of those possibilities would make us very happy.”
Community Reactions

Fans on social media have reacted to Kamiya’s dramatic comments with a mix of amusement and debate. Some praised his protective stance over storylines, while others criticized his harsh wording. Regardless, his statement reinforces the growing concern in the industry about spoilers diminishing the experience of eagerly awaited games.
As Resident Evil Requiem launches later this month, players are advised to respect both Capcom’s and Kamiya’s warnings if they want to experience the game fully.
