Bungie revealed during February’s State of Play that Marathon will hold an open preview weekend called “Server Slam” from February 26 to March 2. The preview will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with cross-play and cross-save support enabled across all platforms.
The Server Slam runs from February 26 at 10 AM PT through March 2 at 10 AM PT, giving players a week to test the game before its full launch on March 5. Players who participate in the Server Slam will earn rewards that carry over to the main game at launch. All participants who complete the introductory mission will receive an exclusive emblem and player background.
Additional rewards are tied to progression levels:
- Completing the first mission unlocks the Standard Arrival Cache, which includes standard implants, Runner shell cores, weapon chip mods, and the Overrun and Hardline weapons.
- Reaching Runner Level 10 unlocks the Enhanced Arrival Cache with upgraded gear, including an Enhanced Magnum and Enhanced Hardline.
- Reaching Runner Level 30 unlocks the Deluxe Arrival Cache with top-tier items, including a Deluxe Magnum, Enhanced Volley Rifle, and Deluxe Base Backpack.
The preview offers a portion of Marathon’s content. Players can access two zones: Perimeter, located on the colony’s outskirts, and Dire Marsh, the agricultural research hub. Five factions will be available—CyberAcme, NuCaloric, Traxus, MIDA, and Arachne, with early contracts and progression trees. Players can try five of the six Runner shells that will be in the full game, plus a scavenger experience called Rook. The preview supports crew play, solo runs, and proximity chat features.

The full release on March 5 will include two additional zones: Outpost and Cryo Archive (the latter unlocking during Season 1). Players will also get access to Thief, the sixth Runner shell, and Sekiguchi Genetics as the sixth faction. A ranked mode will become available during Season 1. Marathon is currently available for pre-order, with pre-order bonuses including weapon cosmetics, an emblem, a player background, and Destiny 2 rewards linked to Bungie.net accounts.
