Blizzard Entertainment marked the 30th anniversary of Diablo with a special spotlight event that brought major news for the franchise. The celebration introduced a brand-new Warlock class that will appear across multiple Diablo games, along with updates and expansions coming throughout 2026.
Diablo II: Resurrected Gets First New Class in Over 25 Years
The biggest surprise came with Reign of the Warlock, a major content update for Diablo II: Resurrected that launched the same day as the announcement. This marks the first time the classic game has received a new playable class in more than 25 years.
The Warlock is a dark magic user who summons and controls demons, using Hell’s own power against its forces. Players can transform into demons and command hellish creatures on the battlefield.
Beyond the new class, Reign of the Warlock adds new endgame challenges where players can choose which acts become “Terrorized” for higher difficulty and better rewards. Defeating the toughest bosses in Hell difficulty can unlock pieces of mystical statues that, when combined, lead to a battle against the Colossal Ancients—a new boss fight designed to test top-level builds.
The update also brings quality-of-life improvements including loot filters, advanced stash tabs, and a Chronicle system that tracks player achievements and offers new rewards.
Diablo Immortal Brings Back Andariel
Diablo Immortal’s 2026 roadmap features the return of Andariel, the Maiden of Anguish. The mobile game will get its own version of the Warlock class later this year. This version draws on forbidden Vizjerei magic and features a demon called the Soulgorger.
The game is also bringing back Lut Gholein from Diablo II, split into two areas: the Common Ward and the High Ward. The city has been changed by hellish forces, giving it a darker atmosphere than fans might remember.
Diablo IV Expansion Adds Two New Classes
The Lord of Hatred expansion for Diablo IV launches on April 29 and takes players to the new region of Skovos for a showdown with Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred himself. The expansion features Mediterranean-inspired landscapes where humanity first emerged in the Diablo universe.
Unlike the other games, Diablo IV is adding two new classes: both the Warlock and the Paladin. The Warlock in Diablo IV has its own visual style with metal chains and flames, representing a more extreme version of the class. The Paladin serves as the opposite end of the spectrum, wielding divine light against darkness.
Blizzard will share more details about the Diablo IV Warlock during a live developer update on March 6.The expansion also introduces new endgame systems, including War Plans that let players customize their progression paths, and Echoing Hatred encounters that challenge players with increasingly difficult waves of enemies.
Each version of the Warlock represents a different era in the world of Sanctuary, showing how the class has evolved throughout the franchise’s timeline. Blizzard described this anniversary as the start of a milestone year leading up to BlizzCon 2026 in September.
