Publisher Fictions and developer Game Freak have announced that Beast of Reincarnation, the “one-person, one-dog action RPG,” will launch this summer for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. Additionally, the game will be available on Game Pass at launch, giving subscribers immediate access.
A Dark Journey: Emma and Koo
The game follows Emma and her companion Koo as they navigate a mysterious world plagued by “blight.” Emma was born with the power to manipulate plants. However, this gift isolates her from society and leaves her without memory or emotion. Koo, a “malefact,” is a dangerous creature that threatens the world. Emma, acting as a “sealer,” must hunt malefacts and absorb their blight. Consequently, her fate gradually intertwines with Koo’s.
Together, they travel from the East to the far West to confront the source of the blight: the Beast of Reincarnation. Along the way, they navigate blighted forests created by giant malefacts called Nushi. To defeat these powerful enemies, Emma and Koo must absorb their strength. In doing so, they unlock new skills, adding depth to combat and exploration.
One-Person, One-Dog Action RPG
Beast of Reincarnation blends fast-paced katana combat with tactical support from Koo. Players control Emma in real-time battles, while Koo’s abilities are triggered through a command-based menu similar to turn-based RPGs. Combat emphasizes tempo, allowing moments to pause, strategize, and respond. This reduces the reliance on pure reflexes.
Players earn points by performing parries, which unlock Koo’s skills. Moreover, they can equip Spirit Stones, katanas, and charms to customize their playstyle. The game offers three difficulty modes: Normal, Hard, and Story Mode. Story Mode provides a more forgiving experience for newcomers.

The narrative centers on Emma and Koo, but allies they meet along the way carry their own secrets.
