Forza Horizon 6 Launches May 19, Heads to Japan for the Series’ Biggest Evolution Yet

Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games have officially announced Forza Horizon 6, confirming a May 19 launch date for Xbox Series consoles and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. The game will be available day one on Game Pass, continuing the franchise’s close ties with Microsoft’s subscription service. A PlayStation 5 version has also been confirmed, though it is scheduled to arrive later in 2026. Players who purchase the Premium Edition will gain Early Access beginning May 15.

Editions, Early Access, and Pre-Order Bonuses

Forza Horizon 6 will be available in multiple editions to suit different types of players. The Standard Edition includes the base game, while the Deluxe Edition adds the Car Pass, granting access to post-launch vehicle content. The Premium Edition offers the most comprehensive package, featuring Early Access, VIP Membership benefits, additional car packs, and two future premium expansions. Players accessing the game through Game Pass can also purchase a Premium Upgrade Bundle, allowing them to unlock Premium content without rebuying the full game. All pre-orders include an exclusive pre-tuned Ferrari J50.

A First-Ever Japanese Setting

For the first time in the series’ history, Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan. Rather than recreating the country at a one-to-one scale, Playground Games focused on capturing the essence of Japanese driving culture. The result is the most vertically dense and visually diverse map the Horizon series has produced to date.

Tokyo serves as the game’s central urban hub, featuring neon-lit streets, industrial docklands, skyscrapers, and iconic landmarks such as Tokyo Tower and Shibuya Crossing. Outside the city, players can explore winding mountain passes, coastal roads, small towns, and quiet rural areas, all designed to support the fast-paced, open-ended driving that defines the Horizon experience.

A New Approach to Progression

Unlike previous entries, Forza Horizon 6 begins with players arriving as tourists rather than established racing stars. Progression is centered on earning recognition through races, exploration, and discovery. The familiar wristband system returns, but it is now complemented by a new Collection Journal inspired by Japan’s stamp-collecting culture. This system rewards players for visiting landmarks, uncovering points of interest, and documenting their journey, tying exploration directly into progression.

Celebrating Japanese Car Culture

Car culture plays a major role in Forza Horizon 6, with over 550 real-world vehicles available at launch. The lineup includes a strong selection of Japanese domestic market classics alongside modern performance cars. The 2025 GR GT Prototype serves as the cover car and appears early in the game, offering players a glimpse of what they can eventually earn.

Engine audio has also received a significant upgrade, supported by new acoustic modeling technology and extensive field recordings captured across Japan’s four seasons. The soundtrack reflects the setting as well, featuring more tracks than any previous Horizon title, including music from Japanese artists.

Community Features and The Estate

Multiplayer and creative tools remain core pillars of the Horizon formula. Car Meets, inspired by real-world Japanese gathering spots such as Daikoku, allow players to socialize, showcase custom builds, and download designs in shared online spaces. EventLab also returns with expanded creation tools and improved multiplayer support.

One of the most notable additions is The Estate, a large, customizable plot of land inspired by Japan’s abandoned rural properties. Players can freely build tracks, social hubs, or personal spaces using in-game currency earned through normal play, reinforcing a sense of ownership and long-term progression.
