Square Enix has announced content guidelines for Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined, limiting what players can share online for the first month after the demo launches.
Despite the original Dragon Quest VII being over 25 years old, the publisher is taking steps to prevent spoilers. The remake includes brand-new storylines and streamlined changes to the original story, which means both returning fans and newcomers will encounter fresh content.
Players are generally allowed to share images, videos, and streams of the game, but there are some important rules to follow. Any content showing major plot points must include a clear spoiler warning so viewers can avoid them. This requirement may be challenging for streamers playing through the game for the first time.
The most specific restriction bans all images, videos, and streams of gameplay that comes after the boss battle in Malign Shrine: Throne Room. This ban lasts until February 5, 2026, the game’s official release date. The rule appears aimed at players with early access, whether through the Digital Deluxe Edition (which grants two days of early access) or promotional codes from Square Enix.
These guidelines are actually less strict than previous Dragon Quest policies. Last year, players were asked to avoid posting major Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake spoilers for one month after release. Going back further, in 1987, Enix filed a copyright lawsuit against a Japanese gaming magazine for publishing Dragon Quest II guides without permission.

Square Enix may ask people who break these rules to remove their content. Depending on how serious the violation is, players could face temporary or permanent suspensions from their copy of the game.
Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined launches February 5 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The Steam version releases one day later on February 6. A free demo is currently available.
