Players can now experience the next chapter in Nihon Falcom’s Trails series earlier than expected. NIS America has announced that the Story Demo and Battle Demo for The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon are available now, offering a hands-on preview ahead of the game’s full launch on January 15, 2026.

The Story Demo is available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Meanwhile, the Battle Demo is exclusive to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, giving console players early access to the title’s evolving combat systems.

A Pivotal Moment for Zemuria

Trails beyond the Horizon takes place during a critical turning point for the Zemurian continent. As ancient prophecies point toward an impending end, humanity also prepares for its first journey into space. A sudden invitation from the Marduk organization pulls Van Arkride, Rean Schwarzer, and Kevin Graham into a high-tech training exercise that hides far deeper secrets.

Although their journeys unfold separately, each storyline moves toward the same central mystery. Ultimately, the game challenges players to uncover what truly lies beyond the horizon of Zemuria.

Refined Combat and New Mechanics

The game builds upon the hybrid battle system introduced in Trails through Daybreak. Players can shift seamlessly between real-time Field Battles and turn-based Command Battles, allowing for both fast-paced action and tactical planning.

New systems such as Shard Commands and S-Boosts further expand combat depth. Each character and holo core offers unique abilities that reward thoughtful party composition. Additionally, certain characters can enter Awakening states during Field Battles, temporarily increasing their power.

Time Control and Optional Challenges

One of the game’s standout mechanics is Z.O.C., which allows players to slow enemy movement while boosting attack strength and stun damage. This system opens new strategic opportunities, especially against heavily armored foes.

Outside the main story, players can recruit allies from across Calvard and beyond. They can then tackle the Grim Garten, an optional dungeon that supports custom party setups and encourages experimentation.
