Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard has shared a new update on The Elder Scrolls 6. The game was first announced at E3 2018 with a short teaser trailer that showed it was in early development. Since then, fans haven’t seen anything new about the project. Now, in an interview with Game Informer for an upcoming Fallout series retrospective, Howard and other senior developers have given some insight into how things are going.
“It’s progressing really well,” Howard told Game Informer.
“The majority of the studio’s on VI, but I’ll say this: We always overlap. So, we’re very used to overlapping development. And we have long pre-productions on things so that we feel good about them. And it’s a process. We all wish it went a little bit faster – or a lot faster – but it’s a process that we want to get right.”
Studio director Angela Browder acknowledged the long wait, joking that “as the internet likes to tell us, it’s been a while.” She expressed excitement about the advances in technology since the last Elder Scrolls game.

“The industry and the hardware and all of this have made such huge leaps and bounds since the last time we made one of these,” Browder said. “I’m actively excited about what’s in front of us, because the opportunities, the hardware, the rendering, all of this stuff has just… the possibilities are crazy.”
Browder reflected on how far the technology has come since working on Skyrim, comparing it to the difference between the original Oblivion and its remaster. “It’s gonna be dope. It’s dope!” she added.
Bethesda is currently managing several projects at once. Howard recently mentioned that the studio has “hundreds of people on Fallout right now, with 76 and some other things we’re doing.” He described feeling “super lucky” to work across multiple games and creative projects, including the Fallout TV series on Amazon. The Elder Scrolls 6 remains without a release date or window.
