In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Larian Studios founder and CEO Swen Vincke shared new details about the company’s next major project, Divinity, which was revealed at The Game Awards last week.
Speaking to Bloomberg on December 11, Vincke confirmed that the new game will stick with the turn-based role-playing game format that the studio has used in its previous titles. “It’s a turn-based RPG featuring everything you’ve seen from us in the past, but it’s brought to the next level,” Vincke explained.
The new Divinity game marks a return to Larian’s own dark fantasy universe after the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3, which sold over 20 million copies and won Game of the Year awards from numerous outlets in 2023. Unlike Baldur’s Gate 3, which was based on Dungeons & Dragons rules licensed from Hasbro, Divinity allows Larian to create its own game systems from scratch.
Vincke told Bloomberg that building a system designed specifically for video games, rather than adapting tabletop rules, will make the game “much easier to understand” for players.

The studio plans to release Divinity through early access, following the approach it has taken with past games. However, Vincke indicated the game is unlikely to launch in 2026, as the team recently switched to a new game engine and is working to reduce the six-year development cycle that Baldur’s Gate 3 required.
Larian Studios now employs 530 people across seven offices worldwide and continues to be majority-owned by Vincke and his wife, with Chinese company Tencent Holdings holding a minority stake.
