Square Enix just released Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake and alongside it a day one update (version 1.0.1.0). The game released across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store and brings the first two games in the Erdrick trilogy to modern platforms with the same visual style used in last year’s Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake.

The update adds English voice acting to certain story scenes and expands the Traveller’s Tips tutorial section. Two new accessories—Anti-Freeze Earrings and Asbestos Earrings—can now be found in Dragon Quest I. Alongside it the Tactics AI system and enemy behavior patterns are adjusted with additional changes including minor bug fixes, stat adjustments, and performance improvements across both games.
The collection continues the story from Dragon Quest III, following the descendants of the hero Erdrick. Players can buy the games individually or as part of the Dragon Quest HD-2D Erdrick Trilogy Collection, a digital bundle priced at $99.99 that includes all three games. Along with updated graphics, the remake includes new story content and gameplay features. Dragon Quest I now has a fully explorable underwater world, while Dragon Quest II introduces a new playable character. The developers have also added quality-of-life improvements to make exploration and combat easier.

Fans of the franchise will find this remake both a nostalgic return to the roots of Dragon Quest and a refreshed, accessible entry point for new players. With its updated visuals, voice acting, and meaningful gameplay enhancements, Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake stands as a fitting tribute to the series’ enduring legacy—and a promising bridge toward the next chapter in the Erdrick saga.
