Idea Factory has confirmed that Mado Monogatari: Fia and the Wondrous Academy will launch on PC via Steam in 2026. Players can also sign up for the closed beta test, which runs from October 27 to November 21, 2025.
A Classic RPG Reawakens
First released in the late ’80s, Mado Monogatari began as a series of first-person dungeon RPGs on the MSX and PC-98. Over the years, it became a cult favorite and later inspired Puyo Puyo, one of Japan’s most iconic puzzle games.

Now, Fia and the Wondrous Academy breathes new life into the series. It combines nostalgic dungeon-crawling elements with modern RPG systems, offering a fresh take on its classic charm.
Fia’s Magical Journey Begins
The story follows Fia, a spirited girl newly accepted into the Ancient Magic Academy. Her dream is simple yet grand—she wants to become a Great Mage. However, her path is full of mystery, magical mishaps, and unexpected discoveries.

Players will experience her growth both in class and on the battlefield. As she studies, duels, and faces strange magical phenomena, her story gradually unfolds across the academy’s enchanting halls.
New Combat and Dungeon Systems
Dungeon exploration now features randomly generated floors, ensuring that every descent feels unique. The game introduces a hybrid battle system that mixes real-time action with turn-based tactics, keeping encounters fresh and strategic.

Players can gather Elemental Orbs and Magic Artes to enhance their abilities. With the Grimoire system, which functions as a skill tree, they can unlock even stronger techniques called Great Magic Artes.
Life at the Academy
Outside of dungeons, Fia and the Wondrous Academy lets players enjoy daily life at the school. They can grow ingredients, cook curry for stat boosts, and take part in lighthearted mini-games.

Fia can also interact with fellow students and craft new equipment in the Storage Room. As her studies progress, she unlocks additional recipes and synthesis options through the Grimoire. These small touches add depth and rhythm to the adventure.
Coming Soon to Consoles and PC

Mado Monogatari: Fia and the Wondrous Academy will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in 2026. For those eager to explore early, registration for the closed beta test is now open. Players can sign up on Idea Factory’s official website before the test begins later this month.
