Square Enix and Dokidoki Grooveworks have shared new details for Octopath Traveler 0. The update reveals a new antagonist, four additional travelers, and expanded Town Building mechanics.

Set once again in the world of Orsterra, the prequel enhances the series’ HD-2D charm with deeper storytelling and more interactive systems. The game launches worldwide on December 4 for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.

The Tyrant Who Seeks to Rule All of Orsterra

At the heart of Octopath Traveler 0 stands Pardis III, the ruthless monarch of the Kingdom of Edoras. Obsessed with wealth, fame, and power, he commands his armies to conquer the entire continent of Orsterra. His greed spreads war across nations, leaving devastation in its path.

As the Ringbearer, players must rise against his tyranny and challenge his reign before darkness consumes the land. Pardis III’s hunger for domination fuels a story of revenge, restoration, and divine destiny.

Four New Travelers Join the Journey

Four new heroes will stand beside the protagonist. Pius, a bishop of the Order of the Sacred Flame, seeks to repay a kindness shown to him as a child. Saoirse, a gifted dancer, travels the world in search of a partner who shares her creative passion.

Carinda, a clever merchant from the Riverlands, charms everyone she meets while finding profit in every encounter. Finally, Xerc, a scholar fascinated by soulstones, explores dangerous secrets few dare to uncover.

Each companion brings unique skills and Ultimate Techniques to battle, enriching the game’s strategic combat and emotional depth. Their paths intertwine as they resist the corruption spreading through Orsterra.

Building a Living Town

Octopath Traveler 0 expands its world with an improved Town Building feature. Players can unlock facilities that grow and evolve through exploration. The Monster Arena allows adventurers to capture creatures and battle them for rare rewards.

In the Museum, players can display treasures, revisit journal entries, and collect music scores. Wishvale’s background music can even be customized, allowing players to choose their favorite melodies from their journey. These features make the town feel alive, reflecting the player’s progress and choices.

A Return to the Heart of Orsterra

Set before the events of the original Octopath Traveler, this prequel explores themes of loss, power, and redemption. It blends tactical combat, layered storytelling, and life-simulation elements to create a more personal adventure.
