Marc-Alexis Coté, the longtime creative lead behind Assassin’s Creed, has officially left Ubisoft after nearly 20 years. His departure comes amid major restructuring and the launch of Vantage Studios, a new subsidiary co-owned by Tencent.
A Veteran Who Shaped Assassin’s Creed

Marc-Alexis Coté, often known as “MAC,” helped define the Assassin’s Creed series from its early days. He worked as co-director on Assassin’s Creed III, creative director on Syndicate, and producer for later entries in the franchise.
Since 2022, Coté has led Ubisoft’s global Assassin’s Creed teams, guiding their creative and strategic vision. His direction helped transform the franchise into one of gaming’s most successful and recognizable names.
Declining a Leadership Role at Vantage Studios

Ubisoft’s recent restructuring placed Vantage Studios in charge of major franchises, including Assassin’s Creed. According to an internal memo, co-CEOs Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes offered Coté a leadership position at the new studio. However, he turned down the offer to pursue new opportunities.
“While we are disappointed by his decision, we understand and respect that MAC had his own expectations and priorities,” the memo stated. The message also thanked him for his years of dedication and his role in shaping Ubisoft’s future.
Ubisoft Expresses Gratitude for His Leadership

Ubisoft confirmed Coté’s departure following the internal changes announced in March 2025. The company praised his creativity, leadership, and lasting impact on the Assassin’s Creed brand.
“Marc-Alexis played a vital role in building Assassin’s Creed into what it is today,” Ubisoft said. “His leadership and passion have inspired our teams and players alike.”
A New Chapter for Assassin’s Creed

Ubisoft plans to continue the Assassin’s Creed journey under Vantage Studios. The new studio will focus on crafting immersive worlds that evolve with player feedback. With Coté’s exit, Ubisoft begins a new creative era—one that aims to honor his legacy while taking Assassin’s Creed to greater heights.
