Sony’s Bluepoint Games appears to be back in full swing following the reported cancellation of its live service God of War project earlier this year. The acclaimed studio, best known for its masterful PlayStation remakes, is now hiring for a new third-person action game — and fans are already eager to see what’s next.
A Return to Its Strengths

Job listings spotted by Tech4Gamers reveal that Bluepoint is recruiting a Senior Combat Designer for its next title. The position specifically calls for candidates with a “solid understanding of combat systems and mechanics for third-person melee action experiences,” along with at least five years of professional combat design experience.
This strongly suggests that Bluepoint is returning to the genre it knows best — tightly crafted, cinematic action games with strong melee systems. While there’s no official word yet on what the project might be, the listing hints at another polished, core PlayStation-style experience rather than a live service experiment.
Following the Cancellation of Its God of War Live Service Title

Earlier this year, reports confirmed that Sony had cancelled two live service projects, one at Days Gone developer Bend Studio and another at Bluepoint Games. Multiple outlets later revealed that Bluepoint’s shelved title was believed to have been set in the God of War universe.
That project would have been the studio’s first attempt at a live service game — and its first original title since Blast Factor in 2006. Sony later confirmed that both cancellations came “following a recent review,” though it emphasized that neither Bend nor Bluepoint would face closures as a result.
A Sony spokesperson at the time noted, “Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family. We are working closely with each studio to determine their next projects.”
From Remasters to Original Ambitions

Founded in 2006, Bluepoint Games has earned a reputation as one of PlayStation’s most dependable studios for remakes and remasters. The team’s work includes the God of War Collection and Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection on PS3, along with Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Gravity Rush Remastered, and the acclaimed Shadow of the Colossus remake on PS4.
Their last full release, the Demon’s Souls remake for PS5 in 2020, was a technical showcase for Sony’s new console and remains one of its most visually stunning launch titles. Since then, Bluepoint has provided support for God of War Ragnarök, but fans have been waiting for word on the studio’s next major project.
What’s Next for Bluepoint

When Sony officially acquired Bluepoint in 2021, studio president Marco Thrush stated that the team was “working on original content” and that it was “the next step in the evolution for us.” Although the live service God of War project didn’t come to fruition, Bluepoint’s current hiring suggests the studio remains focused on creating something ambitious — and this time, firmly within its wheelhouse.
Whether this next game will be a brand-new IP or another reimagining of a PlayStation classic remains unclear. However, given Bluepoint’s pedigree and PlayStation’s renewed focus on single-player experiences, fans can expect something deeply rooted in the kind of precision gameplay and atmospheric storytelling that has defined the studio for nearly two decades.
