Housemarque has shown off the first extended gameplay footage for their upcoming game Saros during the recent State of Play presentation. The third-person action game will launch March 20, 2026 on PS5, with enhanced features for PS5 Pro.
Saros takes place on Carcosa, a hostile alien planet that changes every time the player dies. The game follows Arjun Devraj, played by actor Rahul Kohli, as he explores the planet during a total eclipse. Players will encounter various environments and enemies as they progress through different areas of this shape-shifting world.
The gameplay footage shows Arjun exploring ruins of an ancient civilization in just one of the game’s planned biomes. He meets Nitya Chandran, another key character in the story, during his journey. Building on their previous game Returnal, Housemarque has added new combat systems to Saros. Players wear a Soltari advanced combat suit that allows dashing, melee attacks, and jumping. At the start of each run, players choose their weapons from both human Soltari weapons and alien Carcosan weapons.

The game introduces two main new abilities. The Soltari Shield lets players absorb enemy projectiles by holding R1, turning hostile attacks into energy. This energy powers the Carcosan Power Weapon, which transforms the player’s right arm into a powerful weapon that can fire back at enemies. Saros expands on storytelling compared to Housemarque’s previous work. The game includes voice acting, cutscenes, audio logs, and conversations with other characters. Players can also find Soltari Holograms scattered around the world that explain what happened on Carcosa.

The game features permanent progression systems, meaning players get stronger after each death. One example is the “Second Chance” ability, which lets players revive once per run using eclipse energy. Players can also upgrade their combat suit and abilities over time. Saros is now available for wishlist on the PlayStation Store ahead of its March 2026 launch.
