Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced that Code Vein II will launch on January 30, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. The action RPG sequel was revealed during a recent State of Play presentation along with a new release date reveal trailer showcasing gameplay footage. It’s been about seven years since the original Code Vein was released and Producer Keita Iizuka expressed excitement about finally unveiling the sequel to fans.
Code Vein II takes place in a future where humans and Revenants live together, but the world is close to falling apart. A mysterious force called Luna Rapacis appears and turns Revenants into mindless creatures known as Horrors. This chaos threatens to wipe out humanity. Players take on the role of a Revenant Hunter who must try to change fate itself. They team up with Lou, a mysterious girl who has the power to travel through time. Together, they journey into the past to find out where Luna Rapacis came from and stop the world from ending.
The game features two connected timelines – the present day and 100 years in the past. Players can travel between these time periods and change the fates of different Revenants they meet in the past. This helps uncover hidden history and the truth behind the world’s problems. Two important characters were shown in the trailer: Lavinia, who gives the main character their time-travel mission, and Josee, who becomes a companion during the journey through the past.

Combat and Partner System
Code Vein II brings back familiar weapon types from the first game, including one-handed swords, two-handed swords, bayonets, halberds, and great hammers. The sequel adds two new weapon types: Rune Blades and Dual Swords. The blood-draining attacks from the original return through “The Jail” equipment system. New blood actions called “Reaper” and “Bat” have been added to make combat more varied.
Players can also use supernatural powers called “Forma” that Revenants have always possessed. These can transform weapon attacks into stronger techniques, add long-range attacks, cause status effects, and expand combat options. One example shown is “Absolute Execution Sword,” which creates a massive sword that deals heavy damage but leaves the player open to attacks.

A key feature is the partner system. The player’s companion is sealed inside the main character as a heart-shaped core on their back. This partner helps throughout the story and in battles through two main ways:
- Summon: The partner appears in physical form to fight alongside the player
- Assimilation: The player channels the partner’s power directly for stronger, high-damage attacks
