Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced that it has sold its stake in the Evolution Championship Series (EVO) to NODWIN Gaming. Despite stepping back from ownership, the PlayStation manufacturer will remain involved as a global sponsor through 2028. The move marks a new chapter for the tournament, as Sony sells EVO stake but continues its support for the fighting game community.
Transition to Sponsorship

SIE first acquired EVO alongside RTS in 2021. With this change, the company will now focus on supporting the fighting game community (FGC) as a sponsor rather than an owner. In particular, Sony will continue backing EVO through the PlayStation Tournaments platform. It also promised to deliver new products that are tailored to fighting game players, ensuring they remain part of EVO’s growth.
Phil Rosenberg, SIE’s senior vice president and head of global partner development and relations, emphasized the continued commitment:
“As [SIE] transitions to become an EVO sponsor, the momentum for EVO has never been stronger. Following a successful Las Vegas event and upcoming expansion to new regions, we look forward to supporting the continued growth of EVO globally.”
NODWIN Gaming Steps In

Meanwhile, NODWIN Gaming now joins as co-owner of EVO after Sony sells EVO stake. The company is backed by Sony Group Corporation, SIE’s parent, which ensures that the tournament remains closely tied to the wider Sony ecosystem. According to co-founder and managing director Akshat Rathee, EVO’s authenticity and community-driven roots will remain central to its future.
“EVO was built by a team whose authenticity and passion for the fighting game community are unmatched. We will continue [SIE]’s great work and honor the legacy of everyone who has made it what it is today. At the same time, we will open the door for a new generation to experience the spirit of EVO.”
Qiddiya Extends Its Partnership

Furthermore, Qiddiya announced that it is investing in EVO co-owner RTS. The company, which became a global partner in 2024, also extended its EVO sponsorship through 2027.
RTS CEO Stuart Saw welcomed the development:
“Teaming up with Qiddiya strengthens the future of RTS and what we’re building with EVO. This event lives up to its name by driving real transformation in the fighting game community through new opportunities, deeper connections, and meaningful growth.”
Looking Ahead

Overall, EVO is entering a new phase. With NODWIN Gaming stepping in as co-owner, Qiddiya deepening its role, and SIE committing as a long-term sponsor, the tournament is poised for more growth. As a result, the fighting game community can expect expansion into new regions while EVO stays true to its roots as the world’s biggest stage for competitive fighting games.
