The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise has reached its highest revenue numbers ever in 2025, according to new financial reports from Bandai Namco. The 45-year-old mecha series brought in 65.4 billion yen (about $443 million) during the first quarter of Bandai Namco’s fiscal year, which represents an 81.2% increase compared to the same period last year. This makes Gundam the company’s top-earning franchise for the quarter.
Bandai Namco says several factors helped drive this record-breaking performance. The newly opened Gundam Next Future Pavilion at Osaka Expo has drawn fans, while the Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX anime series has brought in new viewers to the franchise.
The success came from multiple revenue streams. Box office earnings from the Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX compilation film, which combines the first three TV episodes with part of episode eight, contributed to the strong numbers. Video streaming and licensing deals also performed well. Sales of Gunpla model kits, a longtime favorite among fans, remained strong. The new mobile game SD Gundam G Generation ETERNAL also added to the franchise’s earnings.
While Gundam reached new heights, other major Bandai Namco properties saw revenue drops during the same period. Dragon Ball, One Piece, Kamen Rider, Naruto, and Ultraman all posted lower numbers compared to the previous year.

The strong Gundam performance shows that giant robot stories continue to connect with audiences, both longtime fans and newcomers to the franchise. With nearly five decades of history, Mobile Suit Gundam proves it can still attract viewers and generate significant revenue for its parent company.
