TOHO Games, Edelweiss, and G2 Studios have officially unveiled Sakuna: Hinuka Junreitan, a free-to-play game coming to PC via Steam, along with iOS and Android platforms. Initially teased in November 2024, this new entry combines rice cultivation simulation with exploration-based RPG combat and includes item-based microtransactions. However, the developers have yet to confirm a specific release date.

This announcement builds upon the growing popularity of the Sakuna franchise, which first gained recognition through Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. In that title, players used farm tools as weapons and grew stronger by cultivating rice, blending farming elements with action combat in a unique way.

In Hinuka Junreitan, players will once again craft items, swing across terrain with grappling-based traversal, and enhance their stats through rice farming. However, the experience has now been redesigned for a live-service format. Furthermore, a new teaser visual reveals Sakuna in an updated outfit and introduces a new character named Hinuka, voiced by Machico. Naomi Oozora reprises her role as Sakuna.

Not Connected to Sakuna Chronicles

It’s important to clarify that Hinuka Junreitan has no connection to Sakuna Chronicles: Kokorowa and the Gears of Creation, a separate spin-off developed by Edelweiss and Marvelous, also revealed in 2024. While Chronicles focuses on a different storyline, Hinuka Junreitan expands the core world in a more accessible format, specifically targeting PC and mobile users.

The Sakuna IP Continues to Grow

This new announcement adds to a series of projects based on Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, including the aforementioned Chronicles and an anime sequel currently in the works. These developments suggest a long-term plan to expand the Sakuna IP across various media.

With Hinuka Junreitan now officially revealed, fans can look forward to a fresh take on the farming-action formula—this time, fully optimized for mobile play and supported by ongoing live updates.
