The upcoming spiritual successor to Patapon, Ratatan is getting major changes before its Early Access launch on Steam. Developer TVT Co. and Ratata Arts delayed the game earlier this July after receiving lots of player feedback on the demo version.

Producer Kazuto Sakajiri and game designer Hiroyuki Kotani told Famitsu that they’re bringing back special moves that were originally cut from the game. These moves were first shown in Ratatan’s Kickstarter announcement video but didn’t make it into the demo. After many players asked for them to return, the team decided to add them back.

Each of the eight playable Ratatans will now have their own unique special move to make them feel more different from each other. The team chose to give each character one special skill rather than adding more attacks and button combinations. Cobuns, which are the followers that support your chosen Ratatan, will also get their own special moves.

The developers are also making the game less difficult after complaints about the demo. Some players called it a “Soulslike under the guise of Patapon,” which wasn’t what the team wanted. Sakajiri said they’re adjusting the difficulty for the Early Access version to fix this problem.

The Early Access version will also include new accessibility features to help more players enjoy the game. Sakajiri and Kotani said their small team size helps them make decisions quickly, though they’re working with a tight budget and timeline.

All these changes are being put together in what the developers describe as a large patch notes list. Ratatan is being developed for PC through Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Nintendo Switch.
