Marvel Games and NetEase have just dropped the highly anticipated Season 3 trailer for Marvel Rivals, teasing massive updates and cosmic-level threats. Titled The Abyss Awakens, the new season officially launches on July 11, 2025, and it’s packed with fresh content, including new playable heroes in Phoenix and Blade, an ominous new map, system overhauls, and community-focused rewards.
In the first half of the update, Phoenix will be available first as a playable character, with Celestial Husk as the new map that players can play in.
Phoenix Rises as Season 3’s New Hero

Headlining the update is none other than Jean Grey, aka the Phoenix. Known for her immense psychic power and as the host of the Phoenix Force, she now enters the battlefield as a Duelist-class hero. On this alternate Mosaic Timeline, Phoenix and Jean have merged completely, battling across the stars. But when a dark cosmic threat awakens, they plunge into the abyss to burn it from existence.
New Map: Klyntar – Celestial Husk

Season 3 also introduces a new map, Klyntar: Celestial Husk, a grim battlefield formed from the decaying corpse of a Celestial, corrupted by Knull, the god of the symbiotes. While the decapitated head became Knowhere, this map captures the body drifting in orbit around Klyntar, falling apart under cosmic decay and symbiotic power.
Other Game Updates
Aside from the new hero and map, Season 3 brings massive system updates:
- Battle Pass overhaul
- Complete mission system redesign
- New accessory customization
- Four new Team-Up mechanics
- New competitive mode (coming in the second half of the season)
Marvel Rivals is also launching a University Costume Trial Program. Verified students in select regions (US, UK, and more) will gain access to 10 rotating skins and MVP animations each season. Blade is also set to join the roster in Season 3.
