Square Enix Announces October Release for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake

Square Enix has revealed that Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will release on October 30, 2025, priced at $59.99 across multiple platforms. The collection, developed by Artdink Corporation, will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam and Microsoft Store, and notably includes support for the upcoming Switch 2 console.

The remake packages the first two entries in the legendary Erdrick Trilogy, presenting them with the distinctive HD-2D visual style that Square Enix has employed in recent titles. Both games follow descendants of the hero Erdrick as they battle against the forces of darkness threatening the land of Alefgard.

In Dragon Quest I, players take on the role of Erdrick’s descendant who must confront the risen Dragonlord and his monster hordes. The sequel expands the scope, following multiple young princes and princesses of Erdrick’s lineage as they work together to combat a new invasion of malicious creatures across three kingdoms founded by the original hero’s descendants.

The remake includes several bonus features for players. Those who own save data from Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will receive special costume items: a dog suit in the first game and a cat suit in the second. Digital pre-orders come with a “trouble-free travel kit” containing various enhancement items including elevating shoes and multiple stat-boosting seeds.

All bonus items can be collected from treasure chests located at specific inns within each game – Tantegel for Dragon Quest I and Midenhall for Dragon Quest II. Square Enix notes that these bonus items are also obtainable through regular gameplay. Pre-orders for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake are currently available across all announced platforms ahead of the October 30 launch date.
