Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that the latest Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 trailer, which has garnered nearly 80 million views in just one day, was indeed captured entirely on PlayStation 5 (PS5) hardware. The immensely popular trailer, released on Tuesday, initially indicated this with a “Captured on PS5” message displayed alongside the game’s May 26, 2026 release date. However, questions remained about how much of the footage represented actual gameplay versus pre-rendered cutscenes.

Addressing these speculations directly, Rockstar Games posted on their official X account: “Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5, comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes.”

While Rockstar hasn’t specified whether the footage was captured on the base PS5 or the PS5 Pro model, the default assumption is that it’s running on the standard console unless otherwise stated. The significant leap in visual quality can be attributed to GTA 6 being the first completely new entry in the franchise developed specifically for current generation hardware.
