Multiplayer in Elden Ring can be restrictive, resulting in frustrations when setting them up, which is why the “Seamless Co-op” mod quickly became one of the most popular mods for the game.
As the name implies, the “Seamless Co-op” mod essentially does away with many of the restrictions that plagued the base co-op multiplayer experience of Elden Ring.
The mod does many things, including allowing up to 5 players to ride Torrent through the Lands Between, taking down boss after boss, while death no longer breaks connections.
Rarely do we see major game developers acknowledge mods, but recently – in an interview with PC Gamer, not only did Elden Ring director and FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki talk about the mod, but also noted that he may even consider similar ideas for future games.
“It’s definitely not something we actively oppose or want to downplay, wanting to go through the whole game together,” Miyazaki replied when asked about his opinion on the mod.
“In terms of where we were with Elden Ring, it was simply a case of wanting that more loose, casual style—drop in, defeat a boss, drop out. It doesn’t put any technical restrictions on the player, it just sort of lets them complete this focus and then move on, so to speak.”
“That’s not to say we won’t consider other ways like you and your friend played, from beginning to end, total co-op—that’s not to say we won’t consider ideas like that with our future games.
This does not mean that FromSoftware will take the “Seamless Co-op” mod’s way of implementing co-op play one-to-one for future titles but this does deliver a pretty strong message.
FromSoftware has already been slowly improving and pushing the multiplayer aspect of its games to be more accessible, especially in Elden Ring as compared to past titles.
The “Seamless Co-op” mod’s popularity screams loudly, with currently over 3.6 million downloads on Nexus Mods, revealing how much people desire this sort of experience.
