Capcom announced that Resident Evil Village has surpassed 10 million units worldwide in the 3 years after its launch in 2021.

This makes Resident Evil Village the fastest title in the series to hit this milestone, beating its predecessor Resident Evil 7: biohazard and the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2, both titles in the series that have higher lifetime sales of over 13 million units sold as of March 2024, in record time.

For further comparison, it took 1,266 days, a little over 3 years for Resident Evil 2 Remake to sell 10 million copies, while Resident Evil Village hit this milestone earlier in 1,131 days.

This new milestone also puts it ahead of the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4, which has hit 7 million copies by March 31, 2024.

“Even now, three years after its release, the title continues to gain new users, selling approximately two million units each year,” Capcom stated.

The franchise overall, has collectively sold 36.29 million copies by March 31, 2024, as per Capcom’s consolidated financial results.

Resident Evil Village first launched in 2021 for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

Following its release, the game quickly garnered critical acclaim, getting nominated for various awards including the Golden Joystick Awards 2021 and Japan Game Awards: 2022.

A cloud-only Nintendo Switch version was later released after a year, and in 2023, the game launched on Apple iPhone, iPad, and Mac with an M1 chip and later.
