The story of Vi and Jinx will end with this November’s upcoming Season 2 of Arcane, but Riot Games said it is just the “beginning of its larger storytelling journey” and they are already working on more projects across television and film based on the fantasy world of League of Legends – Runeterra.
Accompanying a new trailer for Season 2, Arcane‘s co-creator Christian Linke shared a message on X about the upcoming show and the future of Riot Games’ partnership with animation studio Fortiche.
“From the very beginning since we started working on this project,” said Linke, “we had a very specific ending in mind. Which means the story of Arcane wraps up with the second season.”
“Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey, and our partnership with the wonderful animation studio in Paris called Fortiche.”
Linke went on to talk about how Vi and Jinx shaped from champions to main characters in Arcane, and said, “Their arcs have grown so far beyond our original dreams for them, and we want to give the same treatment to more champions.”
“So we’re currently working on our next projects across television and film,” added Linke while expressing that the team is hopeful of sharing more by the end of this year.
In other words, while Arcane is ending, this is not the end of shows and even films based in the world of League of Legends. Perhaps, we might see a show based on The Freljord, Bilgewater, or the conflict between Noxus and Ionia, and so on in the future. Time will tell.
Since it debuted on Netflix in 2021, Arcane has been a hit for fans and newcomers alike, winning 4 Emmys and receiving high praise from critics.
