In the version 4.3 update of Genshin Impact, not only are Navia and Chevreuse joining the playable cast of Teyvat, but there will also be new Artifact in the form of Song of Days Past and Nighttime Whispers in the Echoing Woods.
In this guide, we will look into the new Artifact set Song of Days Past in Genshin Impact to see if they are valuable to grind for and which character can take advantage of them.
Before we dive into the details of the new Artifact set, both Song of Days Past and Nighttime Whispers in the Echoing Woods can be obtainable from the new Waterfall Wen Domain at the East Slopes of Mont Automnequi in the Belleau Region of Fontaine.
Song of Days Past
The Song of Days Past Artifact set has the following effects when worn with multiple pieces of it:
- 2-Piece Bonus:
- Healing Bonus +15%.
- 4-Piece Bonus:
- When the equipping character heals a party member, the Yearning effect will be created for 6s, which records the total amount of healing provided (including overflow healing).
- When the duration expires, the Yearning effect will be transformed into the “Waves of Days Past” effect: When your active party member hits an opponent with a Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Plunging Attack, Elemental Skill, or Elemental Burst, the DMG dealt will be increased by 8% of the total healing amount recorded by the Yearning effect. The “Waves of Days Past” effect is removed after it has taken effect 5 times or after 10s.
- A single instance of the Yearning effect can record up to 15,000 healing, and only a single instance can exist at once, but it can record the healing from multiple equipping characters. Equipping characters on standby can trigger this effect.
Based on the effects, this Artifact set is without a doubt designed for an off-field healer. The 4-piece bonus description may sound confusing but the effect is actually simple to understand.
Simply put, whenever the character using this Artifact set heals, the healing is recorded for 6 seconds, including overflowing ones. The maximum recorded healing is up to 15,000 healing and the effect is known as Yearning.
After the 6 seconds, the recording stops, and Yearning transforms into the”Waves of Days Past” effect. This effect will increase allied DMG dealt by 8% of the total healing amount recorded and last for 10 seconds or 5 hits.
Recommended Character for this Artifact
In general, this set can work on any well-invested healer such as Jean, Furina, Barbara, and more, hitting the 15,000 HP restored limit and buffing the currently active ally’s damage. Unfortunately, the Song of Days Past Artifact set is not any stronger than other already meta-established supportive Artifact sets like Tenacity of the Millelith, Noblesse Oblige, and Virisdescent Venerer.
The issue lies in the fact that the Song of Days Past Artifact set only adds a boost to the based damage up to 5 hits and expires immediately after. This made it less consistent at keeping its effect active and made precise rotations a lot more demanding, as compared to having 20% increased ATK for 12 seconds like Tenacity of the Millelith or Noblesse Oblige, benefitting the whole team.
If your healer happens to be an Anemo character like Jean or Sayu, then Viridescent Venerer will be the much better support buffing set, decreasing enemies’ Elemental RES of the one currently being Swirl by 40%.
This does not mean that Song of Days Past has no place in Genshin Impact however because, under specific circumstances, it can be worth running it over other sets. For example, if your main DPS does not scale with ATK, such as Neuvillette, then it is more appropriate to have a general damage booster than an ATK buff.
There are also cases like having an Anemo healer supporting a Geo hypercarry like Navia. Since Anemo cannot trigger Swirl on Geo, Viridescent Venerer has no effects on such team composition so Song of Days Past would be the better choice.
Is this Artifact good?
Under specific team structures, Song of Past Days can work as an alternative for Tenacity of the Millelith, Noblesse Oblige, and Virisdescent Venerer, but in most cases, the aforementioned Artifact sets would still perform better and more consistently.
While Song of Past Days may sound appealing as an offensive healer build option, there is the Ocean-Hued Clam, which deals off-field damage depending on the amount healed and would perform more consistently.
All in all, Song of Past Days is not worth the time, and Resin to farm for as there are far better options already well established in the Genshin Impact meta.
