At Anime Expo 2023, Studio Trigger confirmed that they have acquired the rights to the IP Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt from Studio Gainax.

This comes alongside a new teaser trailer for the franchise’s upcoming new anime project titled “New Panty and Stocking” which was previously announced last year.

Panty and Stocking With Gaterbelt was a 2010 anime directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi who would later go on the leave Gainax and found Studio Trigger. Trigger announced that they were working on a new Panty and Stocking series last year however this recent news confirms that they now fully own the IP and are not simply licensing it from Gainax.

Despite being an anime created in Japan, Panty and Stocking are known for their more Western character designs and animation style, including an episodic storytelling style with two stories per 30-minute episode. It revolves around fallen angels Panty and Stocking who were kicked out of heaven for being too lazy, bratty, and horny.

They now live with the priest Gaterbelt in Daten City and will be allowed back into heaven if they collect enough heaven coins which can be gathered from defeating the various ghosts haunting the cities.

Little else has been confirmed about the new series including its premier period but more information should be revealed closer to release.
