Square Enix announced that, the latest entry in the Dragon Quest Monsters series, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is launching worldwide on December 1st, 2023, for the Nintendo Switch.
The Dark Prince gives players the power to command and recruit various types of monsters to join them on a new adventure. You can check out the reveal trailer that was shown at the recent Nintendo Direct below:
Here is a description of the game provided through a press release from Square Enix:
“Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince features Psaro, the demon prince, whose curse prevents him from harming monsters. As a result, he must become a Monster Wrangler, recruiting and fighting alongside monsters throughout the various environments of the fantastical world of Nadiria. Over the course of this adventure, the seasons will regularly cycle through Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall, which not only changes the landscape but also opens new areas and players will encounter different monsters specific to that season.
One of the most powerful tools in the player arsenal is the newly evolved synthesis system which allows players to create completely new monsters by combining those already on their roster. Players can experiment and eventually unlock over 500 monsters, including franchise favorites, dark lords, and completely new creatures. Once players have assembled their dream roster, they can take their teams of powerful monsters online, to battle against other Monster Wranglers around the world”.
The Dragon Quest Monsters Series
Dragon Quest Monsters will be the seventh entry in the long-running Dragon Quest Monsters spin-off series. As the name implies, the series trades out the traditional RPG party with monster collection mechanics, allowing you to form your own party out of the various Dragon Quest monsters like Slimes and Drackys.
This idea first appeared in the mainline game Dragon Quest V and was carried on in the Monsters series. The last game in the spin-off series was Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3. This was a 2016 3DS game that launched exclusively in Japan. The fact that the new game is getting a worldwide release shows how far the series has come in finding greater success outside Japan.
