EA has announced that Apex Legends Mobile is being shut down and they are canceling their upcoming title Battlefield Mobile.

The Mobile version of Apex Legends Mobile will be shut down on the 1st of May 2023. The game’s developer Respawn has made the following on their Twitter:

We have made the decision to sunset Apex Legends Mobile.

Apex Legends Mobile Shut Down

In a post on their official website, EA made a more detailed post about the two titles. They explained that Apex Legends Mobile due to it not meeting their expectations.

“Despite Apex Mobile’s strong start, the ongoing experience was not going to meet the expectations of our players. After months of working with our development partner, we have made the mutual decision to sunset the mobile game. Our love for the Apex universe and our players remains unchanged. We look forward to exploring this universe, its characters, and its stories along with you”.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson (via IGN) further said that the experience of Apex Legends didn’t translate to mobile devices as well as they thought it would and that the game has issues maintaining more casual users that would be needed for its team-based gameplay.

Looking at the game’s user numbers on App Magic shows that Apex Legends Mobile while having a strong initial spike has heavily dropped in users since its’ launch across all regions the game is available in.

As of today, Apex Legends Mobile has been removed from the App Store and Google Play Store and in-app purchases have been disabled. However, if you’ll still be able to play the game if you have it downloaded until the official shutdown at the beginning of May.

Battle Mobile Cancellation 

Furthermore, the EA post said they were canceling the Battlefield Mobile game due to wishing to change their plans for the franchise following changes in the gaming industry. They also reaffirmed that they were developing more content for the latest console iteration of the series Battlefield 2042.

“We’ve also made the decision to stop the development of the current Battlefield mobile title. As the industry has evolved and our strategy to create a deeply connected Battlefield ecosystem has taken shape, we decided to pivot from the current direction to best deliver on our vision for the franchise and to meet the expectations of our players. We remain highly committed to unlocking Battlefield’s enormous potential. We’re hard at work at evolving Battlefield 2042, and are in pre-production on our future Battlefield experiences at our studios across the globe”.

Apex Legends Mobiel will be available for mobile devices until the 1st of May.
