Everything’s Better With A Dog

The mobile game Valor Legends: Idle RPG recently saw a surge in new players and it’s all thanks to one simple new feature: a dog. The game has received a new update that includes a crossover with the popular puzzle game ‘Save The Dog’ with the app even going as far as to completely rename itself to ‘Valor Legends: Dog Rescue’ to highlight its new canine-themed content. 

The title can be downloaded from the Huawei GameCenter App. You can instantly access the ‘Protect The Doge Mode’ on the Valor Legend’s main menu. In this new mode, players go through a course of new levels all about saving a poor little dog from a nest of angry bees. Completing these stages will in turn net you 50 gems, a rare currency that can be used to purchase new goods and equipment for your units in the main game. 

Protect The Doge

At first, it seemed pretty wacky for an RPG to suddenly include a meme-inspired cartoon dog, but after playing the first few stages, I found the dog to be a welcome to the world of Oasis, offering a fun new way to play. 

Protect The Doge is a more casual puzzle game with an easy-to-understand premise. A very smug-looking dog head sits on a platform with a bee hive hanging nearby. Your job is to draw a line around the dog to prevent the bees from attacking and keep the good pup safe for ten seconds. 

This may sound pretty simple and for the most part, it is, however, there is a surprising amount of challenge to some of the levels. There is an actual physics engine in the game. The line you draw to protect the dog has a certain amount of weight to it and can be pushed and prodded by the bees. This means you have to think a little more about what you plan to draw and ensure that it truly is impenetrable until the time runs out. 

You can also get pretty creative with what you can draw to protect the dog. Sure a simple line or an arch will do the trick but you could also draw a stick figure, a brave hero gallantly defending the poor pooch, or even take a more proactive stance and draw a circle around the bees, trapping the foul swarm and ending their reign of terror. It’s made even better by the funny expressions the dogs can have as they’re attacked, from their usual sly smirk to a bug-eyed shock when the bees appear. For literal sitting heads, they sure have a healthy dose of personality. 

Valor Legends: Dog Rescue

To quickly go over the main game, Valor Legends: Idle RPG, now known as Valor Legends: Dog Rescue is a real-time strategy RPG where you recruit a group of heroes to wage war against the shadow forces and bring back peace to The Land of Oasis. The game contains 70 different heroes to collect and build your army with.

You can even play as a Doge Samurai to slice apart villains on the battlefield. He’s one of the first heroes you unlock in Valor Legends and he certainly helps with getting through the early levels. 

Both types of gameplay, the core game and Dog mode, are accessible yet fun. ‘Save The Dog’ offers an addicting puzzle experience that tests your creativity and knowledge of simple physics to protect the smug doggo from the bees. It further manages to do this while also incentivizing you to keep playing the main game with more gems to recruit bigger and better heroes to fight across the oasis. 

It certainly proves the age-old law that everything is better with a dog.
