Tech YouTuber Austin Evans has uploaded a new video where he dismantles a new CFI-1200 PS5 model and looks at its internal design. This is the latest model of the PlayStation 5 which went on sale this August in Australia.

Evans (Via VGC) found several changes to the interior workings in the CFI-1200 that were different from the first couple of models. You can what the video below on Austin Evans’ Youtube Channel:

Notable aspects of the PS5 CFI-1200 model are that its’ motherboard and heatsink are even smaller than the previous models, making the machine lighter than previous models. The heat sink however contains a heat pipe that runs through to the other side of the console. The SSD enclosure also has a better shield.

He also noted that the new PS5 model has better energy consumption. When testing all three consoles by playing Astro’s Playroom, the PS5’s pack-in game, he founds that the launch model roughly drew 218 watts of electricity, the CFI-1100 model drew 229 watts while the new CFI-1200 model drew only 209 watts.

Evans did however have a small criticism of the new model in that the CMOS battery is now completely hidden by the heatsink. This means that if you need to replace the part, you’ll need to take apart the whole machine to reach it.

Overall this inner workings shouldn’t really change how it feels to actually play the PS5 but it’s interesting to see how the console is changed and developed over time.
