Bandai Namco Entertainment have revealed more information about the Gundam Metaverse project today, with ambitious plans for how to to bring people into the virtual experience.
In a preview video, they teased the lofty goals of the Gundam Metaverse Project- though Chief Gundam Officer Koji Fujiwara has said that it will continuously be developed, adding more of the promised features over time.
He described the Gundam Metaverse as being made of four space colonies, representing the different types of Gundam fans.
These would be between Anime, games, Gunpla and esports, though Fujiwara has said that they would only start with a test of the Gunpla Colony in 2022, with the Esports Colony expected to launch in 2023 with a focus on Gundam Evolution as well as Gundam Battle Operation 2.
One of the big features it will have is a live translation, letting you break the language barrier and communicate with other Gundam fans all over the world.
Gunpla Battles In The Gundam Metaverse
The biggest draw for this is the Gunpla Battle System- according to the trailer, you’ll be able to scan your real-life Gunpla into the Gundam Metaverse, and pilot it in battles against other users in an experience explicitly described as being inspired by Gundam Build Divers.
It’s more than just showing off your builds and dominating in robot-on-robot combat though, as the Gundam Metaverse will also feature virtual stores for you to buy your favorite Gunpla kits, with them shipped over to your real address.
They’re calling this the Gundam Base Virtual World, and it will emulate the experience of visiting the Gundam Base stores in Japan.
Of course, like many virtual spaces the project will also feature performance spaces, letting you experience virtual concerts from your phone or PC with other Gundam fans all around the world.
