Publisher NetEase Games and developer Naked Rain have dropped a seven-minute gameplay trailer for ANANTA, their upcoming free-to-play urban open-world RPG. As previously confirmed, the title will be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2025, held from September 25 to 28 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.
The new footage provides the clearest look yet at how ANANTA blends city life simulation with high-stakes combat and boundless exploration.
A Living Metropolis Full of Stories
ANANTA presents a city that never sleeps, filled with unexpected encounters and multidimensional details. Players can move between bustling districts, neon-lit alleys, and indoor spaces across rooftops, mid-levels, and street floors. NPCs breathe life into the environment with intelligent, lifelike behavior—chatting casually, breaking into fights, or reacting to player choices.

The city thrives on interactivity. Petting stray cats in parks, joining in gang clashes, or racing recklessly through traffic all ripple outward to shape the player’s journey. Players can even snoop on passersby’s phones or lose themselves in the city’s nightlife under neon lights. More than just an open world, ANANTA promises a genuine life experience where entertainment, danger, and the bizarre intermingle.

Creative and Dynamic Combat
The trailer emphasizes ANANTA’s action-driven combat system, designed for creativity and freedom. Players can wield improvised weapons scattered across the city, from golf clubs to trash bins, or disarm foes mid-battle to try new fighting styles. Dynamic environmental interactions inspired by action films heighten each clash, while smooth dodges, precise blocks, and explosive counters ensure cinematic tension.

The trailer also highlights ANANTA’s action-driven combat, which thrives on freedom and improvisation. Players can pick up weapons scattered across the environment, from golf clubs to trash bins, while exploiting the terrain for tactical advantages.

Additionally, enemy weapons can be seized mid-fight, encouraging experimentation with fresh combat styles. Strategic dodges, blocks, and counters add weight to every clash, ensuring battles feel cinematic and unpredictable. Rather than relying solely on gear, players must think creatively and adapt to each encounter. Instead of relying solely on gear, combat rewards adaptability. Every improvised tactic feels immediate and unpredictable, making each encounter as much about strategy as reflexes.
Boundless Exploration Across the City

Exploration in ANANTA goes far beyond foot travel. Thanks to its ultra-free 3C (Character, Camera, Control) system, players can swing across rooftops, ride buses, or even commandeer helicopters.

The city spans multiple layers—rooftops, mid-levels, and streets—allowing vertical exploration rarely seen in open-world games. This freedom ensures that no landmark is out of reach, whether discovered during story missions or while casually wandering.
Diverse Roles and Unpredictable Encounters

One of ANANTA’s most striking features is its role-switching system, letting players seamlessly step into varied lives. As the new captain of a special task force, they must navigate city politics and confront hidden threats. Beyond that, players can adopt new perspectives—protecting justice as a cop, infiltrating cyberspace as a hacker, rushing deliveries through backstreets, or streaming urban chaos to chase viral fame. Each role offers distinct personal stories and interactions, enriching the broader narrative of city life.

Embrace the Unexpected

The city is also home to surreal oddities, ensuring the unexpected is always around the corner. A toilet sprouting legs and sprinting through the streets? Just another day in ANANTA. These whimsical touches balance the gritty realism, creating a world where calamity and comedy coexist. From indoor hotspots to sprawling rooftops, every corner of the city holds something to discover.
ANANTA is currently in development for PlayStation 5, PC, iOS, and Android. Although no release date has been announced, players can experience the game during Tokyo Game Show 2025, here’s everything you need to know about the game show.
