Microsoft has sent emails to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers in several countries, confirming they will be exempt from the recently announced 50% price hike—but only if they maintain their active subscriptions.
Users across Poland, Germany, Indonesia, Austria, India, and Ireland have reported receiving these emails from Microsoft. The message confirms that their Ultimate subscription rates will remain unchanged as long as they stay subscribed through auto-renewal.
“At this time, these increases will only affect new purchases and will not affect your current subscription for the market in which you reside, as long as you are on an auto-recurring plan,” the email states, according to The Verge.
“Should you choose to cancel your plan and repurchase, you will be charged at the new current rate.”
The protection appears to be tied to local regulations in these countries regarding how companies can change subscription prices for existing customers. Microsoft announced the significant price increase for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate earlier this week. The service now costs $29.99/£22.99, up from its previous price point. To balance the increase, Microsoft is adding new benefits including Fortnite Crew and the Ubisoft+ Classics collection.
PC Game Pass remains available as a standalone option for PC gamers, though it has also seen a price adjustment. The PC-only subscription now costs $16.49/£13.49 per month, up from $11.99/£9.99.
