Bandai Namco and Brownies have released a new trailer for Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree, highlighting the game’s combat mechanics and roguelite systems ahead of its September launch.
Set in the threatened Shinju Village, the game follows Towa, a young priestess, and her eight companions as they face the villainous Magatsu. At the heart of gameplay is the Miasma purification system, where only the wielder of a magical staff and one partner can venture into dangerous areas due to the staff’s limited power.
Two-Character Party Combat

The game’s battles revolve around a two-character party system, pairing one Guardian wielding the sacred sword Tsurugi and another using the magical staff Kagura. Each Guardian offers unique skills that evolve through dungeon runs and hub-world progression. Elemental affinities also play a key role, influencing strategies and matchups.

Weapons can be upgraded, and abilities unlocked over time. Players can also craft and forge equipment, tailoring each Guardian pair to suit different playstyles. The roguelite structure means dungeon layouts and challenges will shift across runs, with changes in Shinju Village reflecting progression across different timelines.
Visuals and Music

The game’s art style blends hand-drawn character designs with vibrant environments, while the soundtrack comes from renowned composer Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story), promising an emotional and immersive atmosphere.
Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree launches on September 19, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
