Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence is an upcoming third-person shooter from the esteemed Division series for mobile devices. While the game isn’t officially out yet, we take a look into a beta build of this upcoming title.

Gameplay and Controls

Fans of The Division series will definitely be pleased as the control for The Division Resurgence feels really smooth. Even though there’s an abundance of things to do, the controls never felt too cramped all together, as I personally felt that the buttons feel quite well spread. However, in any case that you find the controls to not fit your style, you can always customise the controls from the menu.

The Division Resurgence offers players a complex gameplay system as compared to other mobile game shooters. Aside from your typical running and shooting, you’ll also get the Division element of getting behind cover and jumping over cover. While that means having more button options to the UI, the game never overwhelms you with all the different buttons. The ease of button accessibility even expands to the default layout, which feels really nice to use.

When it comes to playing shooters on mobile, I usually don’t opt for the aim assists as it tends to mess up my aim instead of helping me. However, it’s not the case with The Division Resurgence where it might just be the first time where I don’t feel anything weird even when aim assist is enabled.

Customisation

Initially when creating your character, you can only choose from 4 specialisations, them being Demolitionist, Bulwark, Vanguard, and Field Medic. Down the line when you progress into the game far enough, you’re given the option to change your specialisation, as well as opening up the fifth one being Tech Operator.

I personally felt that the customisation for The Division Resurgence is pretty solid in terms of how you power up your character. Aside from the usual stuff like leveling up your character, weapons, and gear upgrades, you can also mod your weapons from using attachments such as a gun muzzle or magazine. There’s also a ton of weapons that you can test out, and it does feel like the game is pushing the player to try out all sorts of weapons as the drop rate is relatively generous.

Even if you’re not able to get the weapon you want, you’re still able to find it in the Armoury, unlock the blueprint and craft them yourselves.

Content

Content-wise, The Division Resurgence is on the rich side as there’s an abundance of different stuff you can do, although they’re all grouped under the World Event section. You’re able to get plenty of EXP and SXP (which is what you need to level up your Specialisation to gain skill points), and quite a number of equipment from it.

There’s also the Hostile Next feature which is essentially a mini stage where you go in, kill everything and get rewards from it. The time needed to clear through the event doesn’t take long and the reward you get from it is pretty generous too. Although, you can only get those rewards upon the first completion so you can’t farm those.

After clearing through the main mission stages, you’re able to go back and farm those mission stages. There’s different difficulties for you to choose too, and if you want to, you’re also able to form a team to clear through the mission.

Overall

All in all, Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence is looking promising so far. I particularly really like the controls of the game. While the game offers some pretty complex features, the developer manages to make the game feel good to play on a mobile phone.

While the version I tried out was still in beta, there’s still enough content for me to go through and I’m certain there will be more during the full release of the game. Another merit I would like to point out from my game of trying the game would be its customisation features, and how varied it is.

My one gripe from trying out the game is how the framerate is locked at 30FPS. But given that this version is still in beta, I’m sure that they’ll address this in the future.
