The Pokémon Company Cancels April Events at All Pokémon Center Locations in Japan

Fans of Pokémon in Japan or planning to visit will need to adjust their plans this April. The Pokémon Company has cancelled all scheduled events at Pokémon Center stores nationwide from April 1, to April 31. The only exceptions are the City League TCG Tournament and the Preliminary Tournament for the Pokémon GO Japan Championships 2026.

The announcement was made simultaneously for every Pokémon Center through the official Pokémon Center Staff Voice portal. Regular events, including Pokémon Greetings with mascots and Pokémon TCG Classroom sessions, will not take place. The company cited “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for the cancellations.

Tournaments to Proceed Without Spectators

While the City League and Pokémon GO preliminary tournaments will still occur, they will operate under strict conditions. Matches will not be broadcast, and spectators are not allowed. As a result, previously planned commemorative gifts for attendees will no longer be distributed. The Pokémon Company emphasized safety and adherence to regulations, which influenced these changes.

Background: Mega Tokyo Closure

These cancellations follow the temporary closure of Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo, announced on March 27. The store closed after a fatal stabbing incident claimed the life of an employee. They stated that staff well-being and cooperation with authorities remain top priorities. Currently, it is unclear when Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo will reopen.
