While Sony has been releasing more PlayStation games on PC in recent years, Team Asobi, the studio behind Astro Bot plans to keep making games built specifically for the PlayStation 5.
Studio founder and director Nicolas Doucet shared in an interview with The Game Business that his team wants to fully use the PS5’s unique features, even as other PlayStation Studios appear more careful about relying on console-specific capabilities. Team Asobi’s recent release, Astro Bot, made heavy use of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and the fast loading enabled by the PS5’s SSD.

“We really focus on PS5. We want to take full advantage of the DualSense and the console’s SSD,” Doucet explained. “There is always a way to cross bridges if we ever need it. But really, the main focus is on the PlayStation console.”
According to Doucet, working with fixed console hardware lets Team Asobi create consistent experiences for all players instead of ensuring compatibility across various PC configurations. While PC hardware has become more standardized over time, he still prefers the straightforward nature of consoles.

“It’s specific hardware that is absolutely set. You know that what you’re making in your office is definitely what people will see in their home when they play the game,” Doucet said. “That allows us to focus, because you’re not putting in time dealing with compatibility or permutations. It’s why I’ve always liked consoles.”
He pointed to Astro’s Playroom as a tech demo designed to show off the DualSense controller, which is why that game emphasized the controller’s features heavily. Astro Bot, however, took a different approach. Rather than filling the 15-hour game with constant DualSense features, the team only included them when they improved the gameplay experience.
