CD Projekt Red has recently revealed that their temporarily stopping production for The Witcher Remake to put more resources into the fourth installment. Developer Fool’s Theory, who worked on The Witcher 3’s recent expansion, Songs of the Past, is also attached to the remake, but CD Projekt Red stated that it’s currently helping out in The Witcher IV’s development.
A representative from CDPR stated in an interview with Gamespot, “Fool’s Theory team is focused mainly on the development of The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, while a relatively small part of their team is supporting the development of The Witcher 4.”
The rep also revealed that the development of the remake has been paused since it’s being built on the backbone of the fourth installment. CDPR shared, “As we have previously announced, the development on The Witcher Remake has been temporarily integrated with The Witcher 4 due to production process dependencies.”
“As The Witcher Remake will be built on the foundation laid by The Witcher 4, we need to have the necessary assets, tools, and pipelines ready for efficient development,” the studio added.

Nonetheless, the news doesn’t give players reasons to be worried about the two confirmed projects up CDPR’s sleeve. It reassures that the developers are taking their time to ensure they run in their best forms.
The Witcher Remake was originally announced in 2022, and the devs have revealed that it will modernize outdated elements and feature an open world. With the recent news that CDPR is aiming for a 2028 release window for The Witcher IV, the remake may come much later, as it will be built on the foundation of the fourth installment.
