MAGES. has announced that STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT will now launch in 2026 in Japan, missing its original 2025 release window. Along with the delay, the developer has shared the first screenshots showing the game’s updated visuals, though the graphics are still being worked on. The game’s platforms have not been announced yet.
Original character designer huke has redesigned the cast for RE:BOOT. The characters feature new outfits and accessories with more detailed artwork meant to make them feel more present and alive in the game. The game’s backgrounds show Akihabara as it looked around 2010, created using reference photos from that time period. The detail level is high enough that the backgrounds could be mistaken for real photographs. MAGES. has also added new locations that weren’t in the original STEINS;GATE to expand the story.

The revealed locations include:
- The lab where Rintaro Okabe and his friends work
- Interior shots showing the various gadgets and equipment they use for research
- Manseibashi Bridge with a view of Electric Town, including some buildings that no longer exist in real life
- A coin laundromat next to the lab
- Akihabara Radio Kaikan with the crashed time machine, one of the game’s iconic images
- Side-by-side comparisons with the original game

All event scenes have been remade from storyboards to show the story in a closer, more dramatic way. MAGES. has added scenes that weren’t in the original game to make the experience more engaging. MAGES. noted that the new screenshots show a work-in-progress version and may change before release. Additional information about STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT will be shared at WePlay Expo 2025 in Shanghai, China, running from November 22 to 23. The announcements will be handled by Spike Chunsoft at the event.
