Wizards of the Coast and Paramount have revealed that SpongeBob SquarePants will be the next franchise to cross over with Magic: The Gathering. Additionally, the upcoming collaboration will feature three distinct SpongeBob-themed card collections, with a special emphasis on internet memes inspired by the beloved animated series.

Set to release on March 24, the SpongeBob SquarePants Secret Lair drops will be available through Magic’s Secret Lair web store as part of the ongoing “Universes Beyond” brand. Furthermore, these cards are essentially reskinned versions of existing Magic cards that can be used in standard play.
Among the highlights is a new version of the popular “Counterspell” card featuring artwork inspired by the widely recognized “Mocking SpongeBob” meme. In addition, the collections are thoughtfully designed to reflect each character’s personality from the show, with Sandy Cheeks receiving an indestructible Legendary Creature card that can’t be countered—a nod to her impressive martial arts skills. Patrick Star, meanwhile, appears as a strong 6/5 creature with artwork and abilities that humorously showcase his cluelessness.

The collection is divided into three drops:
- “Secret Lair × SpongeBob SquarePants: Legends of Bikini Bottom,” featuring artwork by Caleb Meurer and Gregg Schigiel that celebrates the core characters as some of Magic’s most powerful cards
- “Secret Lair × SpongeBob SquarePants: Internet Sensation,” which pays homage to the countless memes the show has inspired
- “Secret Lair × SpongeBob SquarePants: Lands Under the Sea,” showcasing iconic locations like Bikini Bottom, Jellyfish Fields, and Kelp Forest through Jon Vermilyea’s artwork
Moreover, fans can purchase these cards starting at 9 AM PT on March 24 at the official website. The collections will be available in both regular ($29.99) and foil ($39.99) editions.
