Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed the cancellation of two unannounced live service games from its subsidiary studios, Bluepoint Games and Bend Studio. According to a Bloomberg report, one of these projects was a live service God of War game being developed by Bluepoint Games, which had been in development since the studio completed its work on God of War Ragnarök in 2022.
The decision came “following a recent review,” according to a Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson. Despite these cancellations, the company affirmed its commitment to developing both single-player and online games. “Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine what are the next projects,” the spokesperson stated.

This move follows a mixed track record for Sony’s live service strategy. While the company has seen success with Helldivers II in 2024, it has also faced setbacks, including the rapid removal of Concord from sale just weeks after its release. The cancellations add to a growing list of terminated live service projects at Sony, including a previously reported Spider-Man-based game.
Regarding potential workforce impacts, while Sony hasn’t explicitly confirmed whether these cancellations will result in job cuts, an internal memo reviewed by Bloomberg indicates that the company is working to “ensure there is minimal business impact” at both studios. The current status of both studios’ next projects remains unclear.
