Sony Interactive Entertainment and Tencent have formally ended their legal dispute involving the game Light of Motiram. Court documents filed in December confirm that both companies reached a confidential settlement. The court dismissed the case with prejudice, which prevents either party from reopening the same claims in the future.
The lawsuit began in July 2025, when Sony moved to block the release of the game. Sony argued that Light of Motiram infringed on intellectual property associated with the Horizon franchise. The claims focused on copyright and trademark concerns tied to visual design, characters, and presentation.
Delisting From Major Digital Platforms
Following the settlement, Light of Motiram no longer appears on major digital storefronts. Steam and the Epic Games Store have removed the game from their listings. SteamDB now labels the title as retired and unavailable for purchase.
Players and community members first noticed the removal through changes to SteamDB records and missing storefront pages. The game’s official website previously linked to these listings, but the links no longer lead to active store pages.
Tencent also removed marketing materials tied to the game. These materials included the reveal trailer and promotional screenshots. Platforms that originally hosted this content no longer display it.
Origins of the Legal Conflict
Tencent announced Light of Motiram at the start of 2025. The company described it as a futuristic survival-focused action game. Planned features included cooperative play, base-building systems, crafting mechanics, and combat against large robotic creatures.
The reveal trailer and early screenshots drew immediate comparisons to Horizon Zero Dawn. Observers highlighted similarities in environmental design, mechanical creatures, and the appearance of the game’s main character. The protagonist featured red hair and futuristic tribal-inspired attire.
Sony’s lawsuit stated that Tencent had previously pitched a mobile Horizon spin-off. According to Sony, that proposal included ideas later seen in Light of Motiram. Sony argued that Tencent reused protected elements from the franchise in both gameplay concepts and marketing.
Arguments Presented by Both Companies
Sony sought statutory damages of $150,000 (around MYR 613,575) for each Horizon title involved. The company also asked the court to order the destruction of all Light of Motiram advertising materials. Sony stated that the similarities risked consumer confusion.
Tencent disputed those claims. The company argued that Horizon Zero Dawn relied on common genre elements. Tencent also stated that Light of Motiram remained in active development. At the time, Tencent listed a tentative release window of 2027. The company said the final version could differ significantly from early materials.
During the legal process, Tencent revised the game’s marketing. Updated descriptions reduced emphasis on specific themes. The company also halted public promotion and paused plans for public testing.
Case Dismissal and Current Status
In December, both companies jointly requested the court to dismiss the case. The court approved the request and dismissed it with prejudice. Court filings indicate that each party will cover its own legal costs.
Tencent confirmed the confidential settlement through a company spokesperson. The statement noted that both companies would make no further public comments. Sony did not issue an additional response.
At present, Light of Motiram remains unavailable on major platforms. Neither company has announced plans to revive or rebrand the project.
