The upcoming anime adaptation of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has officially received its Japanese premiere date. Titled Sekiro: No Defeat, the new animated project will debut in Japan on September 4 with a special three-week theatrical run.
The announcement was made by Kadokawa Corporation, Crunchyroll, Qzil.la, and ARCH, alongside the reveal of the anime’s official main visual.
While Japanese audiences will be able to experience the anime in theaters first, international fans will need to wait a little longer for additional release details. It was previously confirmed that Sekiro: No Defeat will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide, excluding Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus. A global streaming premiere date has not yet been announced.

Returning To The World Of Ashina

Based on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the anime revisits the war-torn land of Ashina, where political conflict and supernatural forces continue to threaten the fragile balance of the region.
According to the official synopsis, Japan has become fractured into multiple independent nations locked in constant warfare. At the center of the chaos is Ashina, a land known for its sacred soil and mysterious origins. Following the bloody coup led by Sword Saint Isshin Ashina two decades earlier, a new threat emerges in the form of the Interior Ministry.

As tensions escalate, Genichiro Ashina turns toward forbidden powers in a desperate attempt to save his homeland. Standing against the growing darkness are the kidnapped Divine Heir and his loyal shinobi protector, Sekiro.
The anime adaptation is expected to retell key moments from the critically acclaimed action game while expanding on the relationship between Sekiro and his young master. Themes surrounding loyalty, sacrifice, mortality, and redemption are likely to remain central to the story, much like the original game.
A Highly Anticipated Adaptation

Fans have closely followed Sekiro: No Defeat ever since its original announcement. The source material already carries a strong legacy within the gaming industry.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice launched in 2019 and quickly became one of FromSoftware’s most celebrated titles. Players praised the game for its challenging combat, fast-paced swordplay, and unique posture system. In addition, its Sengoku-era inspired world and dark fantasy storytelling helped it stand out from other action games.
The game later secured several major awards, including Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019.
Now, with the theatrical premiere approaching, fans finally have a clearer idea of when they can return to Ashina in animated form.
