Cygames has recently filed new trademarks for Lost Order, a long-dormant project that was first revealed back in 2016. The move has immediately reignited discussion around the game’s status, especially given how long it has remained silent since its initial announcement.
The European trademark was filed on April 15, followed by a United States filing on April 30. As a result, fans have begun questioning whether the project may finally be preparing for a return.
A Long Silence Since The Closed Beta

Lost Order was originally announced in 2016 as a real-time tactics game developed in collaboration with PlatinumGames. At the time, it attracted attention due to its team-based tactical combat direction and high production pedigree.
However, the game went quiet after its closed beta test concluded in August 2017. Since then, Cygames has not released any major updates regarding its development status. This long silence led many to assume the project had been quietly canceled.
Despite that, the newly surfaced trademarks suggest the situation may not be as final as fans previously believed. While trademarks alone do not confirm active development, they often indicate that a project is still being maintained in some form.
Conflicting Reports On Development Status

The uncertainty around Lost Order deepened further due to past corporate statements. In a Q&A for the fiscal year ended September 2024, Cygames parent company CyberAgent initially stated that development had been put on hold.
However, that statement was later corrected. The company issued an apology and clarified that the project was still in development at that time. This contradiction has only fueled more speculation among fans about the game’s true status.
What Happens Next For Lost Order

At this stage, neither Cygames nor PlatinumGames has provided new gameplay footage, release windows, or formal updates for Lost Order.
Still, the recent trademark filings suggest the project has not been completely abandoned. Whether this signals a full revival, internal restructuring, or simple IP maintenance remains unclear.

For now, fans are left with more questions than answers. After nearly a decade of silence, even the smallest legal update has been enough to bring the game back into public conversation.
