Rockstar Games has confirmed that it was hit by a data breach after a hacker group claimed to have gotten hold of a significant amount of data from the GTA 6 developer.
The group behind the attack, known as ShinyHunters, came forward saying they broke into Rockstar’s systems through a third-party analytics platform called Anodot, a service companies use to monitor cloud costs. ShinyHunters is no stranger to high-profile targets, the group has previously gone after Microsoft, Cisco, AT&T, and Ticketmaster.
In a message posted online, the group issued what they called a final warning to Rockstar.
“Pay or leak. This is a final warning to reach out by April 14 before we leak, along with several annoying digital problems that will come your way. Make the right decision, don’t be the next headline.”

Rockstar acknowledged the breach in an official statement, but played down its significance. “We can confirm that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach,” a spokesperson said.
“This incident has no impact on our organization or our players.”
ShinyHunters has not specified exactly what files they have in their possession. However, the type of data that could potentially be exposed includes financial records, marketing plans, contract information, and player spending data.
The data breach incident is likely to remind many of the major Rockstar Games hack from 2022, where early Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay footage was leaked online before the game had even been officially announced. That case ended with an 18-year-old being convicted and placed in a secure hospital by a British judge.
